Google Chrome OS – A Pre-Review

Google Chrome OS this is the latest buzz in technology, there are a lot of videos and pictures claiming these are real Chrome OS videos from months before.

On 7th November 2009 Google officially announces that they will extend there browser to OS
We designed Google Chrome for people who live on the web — searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends. However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web. So today, we’re announcing a new project that’s a natural extension of Google Chrome — the Google Chrome Operating System. It’s our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be.

With all the rumors and airs of leaked chrome OS Google put a full stop by airing a webcast yesterday. The Highlights of the Webcast were

  1. Chrome OS is a year away (who knows they will launch a beta – they are good at it)
  2. Google Chrome OS focuses on three things – Speed, Simplicity, Security (this is what we can expect from Google)
  3. All data on Chrome OS is in the cloud
  4. Chrome OS will looks like Chrome browser
  5. User data on machine is always encrypted and always synced to the cloud – local data is just a cache
  6. Cold reboot demo – to logon screen in 7 sec, full OS in another 3 sec
  7. And yeah its true -It’s ONLY meant for Netbooks.
  8. It is based on Debian.
  9. Will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010
  10. Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips
  11. Chrome OS is open source and you can download it from here

Within few hours of launching of the source code, of Google Chrome OS some Geek developers compiled it and made available to us. You’ll need VMWare to get Chrome OS running.
