Format USB drive into NTFS format

There are a lot of benefits of using NTFS format rather than default FAT format in Windows XP. For those who really understand what they get from NTFS here is the tutorial which will tell you how to format your USB/flash/pen drive in Windows XP.

Before beginning let just have a look on some special features of NTFS
a.) Allows you to encrypt your files.
b.) Allows file compression.
c.) Allow you to transfer/send large files.

How To:
1. Plug in your USB drive that you want to format.
2. Right click on My Computer and go to Properties, click on Device Manager from the navigation pane.

3. Now Expand Disk Drives, and Right click on your USB/Flash Drive and select Properties.

4. Go to Policies tab and select for Optimize for Performance and apply.

That’s It!!!

It’s all done, now just open explorer and right click on your Pen drive and select Format, now you will find NTFS formatting option too.

or you can just type

Format X: /FS:NTFS

in Run dialog box, where X is replaced by your USB drive letter.

    I think FAT is mostly used format for windows.

    If we format USB drive using NTFS, some files may not be transfered to PC having FAT format ???

    whether its true ??

    bcoz NTFS is higher version than FAT ……

      FAT is most widely used till the XP days, from the advent of Vista NTFS is the most used file format.

      Replying to your doubt – No, transferring file will not cause any trouble.

    Ntfs got better indexing .. So faster search of files….NTFS is more reliable to crashes… And many more new features…

    ^ I goggled and found that Lexar tool is able to create a partition in USB drive.
