What is the Hardware Requirement to display Aero Effect

This is a part of Question and Answer series, one of my reader asked me that he is not able to see Aero effects in his Windows 7. He asked me that if there is an special Hardware requirement to see Aero Effect in Windows 7. He is using Windows 7 Home basic.

For those who don’t know what Aero is – in simple language Aero is the glass look that you see in Windows 7.

The reason he is not able to see Aero effects is becuase the version of Windows which he is using does not have Aero effect in it. The following editions of Windows 7 include Aero:

  • Windows 7 Enterprise
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Windows 7 Professional
  • Windows 7 Ultimate

Note: Aero is not included in Windows 7 Home Basic or Windows 7 Starter.

Aero hardware requirements

Check that your computer meets the minimum hardware requirements for running Aero:

  1. 1-gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  2. 1 gigabyte (GB) of random access memory (RAM)
  3. 128-megabyte (MB) graphics card
  4. Aero also requires a DirectX 9 class graphics processor that supports a Windows Display Driver Model Driver, Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, and 32 bits per pixel.

Which else Windows 7 feature you like the most? Well I like Windows UAC and Flip 3d…

The glassy look that you see in Windows 7 is Aero for eg. When you hover your mouse at the far right end of the taskbar the peek effect that you see is AERO, The WIN+TAB Flip 3d effect is AERO and the glass boder that you see all over windows 7 is a part of Aero.

  4. Hey you forgot one think! If a laptop is running on Power saving mode then also it disables the Aero! I have seen many laptops running all time on Power Save Mode.

    Good info.!!!
