- Create a system restore point before making any changes to window registry, you can find the guidelines to create a system restore point at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html
- Click on window Orb (Start) icon on the task bar
- Type “regedit” and press enter
- In the left pane navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
- Find a REG_SZ entry names as “shell” and check its value, which should be “Explorer.exe” without double quotation marks
- If this entry does not exist, click on Edit -> New -> String Value and name it as “Shell”
- Right Click on the “Shell” entry and click on “Modify”
- Type the name “explorer.exe” and press OK and then restart the computer
