Sometimes when you move from Window XP or any other Windows to Window 7, some of your devices show the problem of missing drivers. In this article we will address this particular problem for PCI devices.
Steps:
1. Identify the name of your PCI communication device
2. Right click on “My Computer” and go to “properties”
3. Click on “Device Manager”
4. Then right click on “PCI simple communication controller” and click on properties
5. Select the “Details” tab
6. From the drop down box select “Hardware ids”
7. Get the digits written after “VEN” and “&”
8. Get the digits written after “DEV” and before “&”
9. Open http://www.pcidatabase.com/
10. On the main page you can see the “Device search”
11. Write down the digits you got from step 8 and search them
12. In the result tab, find the device name listed in front of searched device id and check the vendor number which will be written in the third column
13. After getting the device name, check from the Microsoft Window 7 compatible device list
14. If it is listed then you can download drivers for that device and install them on your computer
15. If it is not listed there, you can disable them by right clicking on them in the “Device Manager” and selecting “Disable”
16. You can later on change the device with the one which is supported by Windows 7, when you need to use them.
