How to Stop Automatic Shutdown/Restart of Windows XP?

In this article we will show you how to stop your computer from automatic shutdown or restart.

Bios Problems:

  • Keep your BIOS updated. Updates are regularly released on manufacturer website that can help you avoid the problem of continuous PC restart.

Software Problems:

  • If you are having restart problems due to any software, scan your system with good scanning tools such as CCleaner, Registry Cleaner etc.
  • If problem persists, use “System Restore” to restore your system to previous state.

Recovery Settings:

Whenever a fatal error occurs during system shutdown; your system restarts. To prevent this from happening, perform following steps:

  • Go to Start>My Computer>properties
  • Click on “Advanced” tab
  • Click on “Setting” button under “Startup and Recovery” panel
  • Uncheck the option “Automatically Restart”
  • Press OK and restart your computer

Automatic update problems:

Whenever we use automatic update function to update our windows, it gives us restart message. To avoid this message, perform following steps:

  • Go to Start>My Computer>properties
  • Click on “Automatic Updates” tab
  • Select the radio button “Download Updates for me….” And press Ok
  • Type “gpedit.msc” in RUN window, which you can open by pressing Window + R
  • Open Local Computer Policy>Computer Configuration>Administrative Template>Windows Component>Windows Update
  • Double click on “No Auto Restart for Scheduled automatic updates….” And select “Enable”
  • Press Ok
