If the option to “store and display recently opened items in the Start Menu and the Taskbar” is grayed out in Win 7 then below solutions will surely help you out.
Solution 1:
- Open REGEDIT.EXE
- Find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
- Find the registry values for “NoRecentDocsMenu” and “NoRecentDocsHistory”. If any of them is set to 1 then delete it. If both of values are set to 1 then delete both of them.
- Browse to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
- If this key exists then find the registry values for “NoRecentDocsMenu” and “NoRecentDocsHistory”. If any of them is set to 1 then delete it. If both of values are set to 1 then delete both of them.
- Restart the PC
Note: If you do not want to delete anything in registry then instead of deleting, set the values of both registry keys to 0.
Solution 2:
- Right Click on Taskbar.
- Go to Properties. The dialog box for ‘Taskbar and Start Menu properties’ will open.
- Go to the tab for Start Menu.
- Select the option for “store and display recently opened items in the Start Menu and the Taskbar”
- Click on APPLY button.
