How to troubleshoot USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge Installation failed?

In this article we will discuss a common HDD issue with Windows 7 64x computers whereby USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge installation is failed. In such case

If your PC’s initial screen freezes at startup and does not pass through it then follow below steps:

  1. Unplug any externally attached HDD.
  2. Change primary boot to CD.

If PC does not recognize HDD after plugging it back then

  1. Go to Device Manager
  2. Uninstall USB Mass Storage Device and USB Drive from Disk Drives
  3. Unplug it and plug it back.
  4. Restart with the HDD plugged in.

If none of these solutions work then

  1. Check the jumper on that drive and make sure that it is set to MASTER. Moreover, give it a whirl.
  2. If this solution does not work the set the jumper to CABLE SELECT
  3. Go to MY COMPUTER > MANAGE > DISK MANAGEMENT and initialize the drivers.
