Tips to speed up Windows Vista

The performance of Windows Vista can be boosted up by following below simple tips:

  • Turn off all the unwanted animations. For this go to Start>Search. Type sysdm.cpl in the search box. Enter the settings by clicking on the Advanced tab. Uncheck all unwanted options under visual effects.
  • Keep the settings of all unwanted services to manual.
  • ReadyBoost can also be used to increase system Performance.

  • Perform Defragmentation and Disk Clean-Up on regular basis.
  • Disable the Welcome center and side bar. To disable side bar, right click it to enter properties and unmark start side bar. Similarly to disable welcome center, deselect the option of Run a Startup Button which is located at the bottom of the welcome center.
  • To enter Internet Explorer in desktop items, registry values needs to be modified. This can be achieved as: Go to start > run. Type regedit and press enter. Now enter following registry key.

  • Change the default Start Menu from Sleep to Shutdown. For this go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Change Power Plan. Change advanced power settings in next screen.
  • To restart system quickly, press Ctrl+Alt+Del, click red shutdown button, click it while holding Ctrl. A confirmation screen will appear. Press yes to confirm it.
