Windows 7 Synchronization problem with Internet Time Server

This article addresses the problem which occurs when you try to access Internet Time Servers (NTS) and receive an error message “An error occurred while windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com, the peer is unreachable”. Following are two solutions for this problem.

Solution # 1:

Sometime this error is caused by the internet time server with which you are trying to synchronize your windows. In order to solve this problem, you should try to access some other Internet Time Server like “time.nist.gov”.

Solution # 2:

  • Click on the window Orb (Start) button located on your taskbar.
  • Type services.msc in the command line or press Window + R to open the command line dialogue box and type services.msc.
  • In the left pane of opened window, find “Window Time” service.
  • Check under status tab, there is very strong probability that its status is “Stopped”.
  • Right click on the “Window Time” service.
  • Click on “start” from the context menu.
  • Again right click on “Window Time” service.
  • Click on the “properties” shown in the context menu.
  • Click on General Tab.
  • Click on the drop down box in front of “Startup Type” and select “Automatic”.
  • Press OK.
  • Restart your system.
