How to create Ad hoc network over the Wi-Fi in Windows XP?

In this article we will show you how to connect two computers through Wi-Fi in few simple steps.

  1. Right click on “My Computer” and click on “Properties”
  2. Click on “Computer Name” tab and Change the Computer name to “PC1″ and write “WG” under “Workgroup” option.
  3. Click on “Apply” button and close it.
  4. Double click on “Network Connections” in “Control Panel”
  5. Right click on your wireless adopter and select “properties”
  6. Click on “Wireless Network” tab
  7. Click on “Advance” button and select “Computer to Computer (Adhoc) Network” option.
  8. If SSID window opens, write “Wi-Fi” in the SSID box and close the window.
  9. Click on the “Add Preferred Networks” and set the following information
    • SSID: Wi-Fi
    • Network Authentication: Open
    • Data Encryption: Disabled
  10. Now select the “General” tab and double click on the “TCP/IP” and set the following values
    • IP Address: 192.168.0.23
    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
  11. Click OK.

Now do the same steps for the second computer. Just make the following changes:

  • Step 2: Change the computer name to “PC2″
  • Step 10: IP Address: 192.168.0.22
