Changing the Company Name and Registered Owner in Windows

During installation of Windows, users are prompted to enter the name of owner and organization. Windows allows the users to change these settings in case they entered the wrong one or if the status gets changed. Follow the given trick to change this information.

  • Open Registry Editor by typing regedit in start menu
  • Press the Continue button on User Account Control window if you have not previously disabled the Windows Vista UAC.
  • In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Here we will modify the RegisteredOrganization and RegisteredOwner keys one by one.

  • Double click the RegisteredOrganization. This will open the key editor. In the given field, enter the new name. Press OK to save the changes.
  • Follow the same procedure with RegisteredOwner key.
  • Exit the Registry Editor.

There is no need to restart the computer to verify the changes. The changes can be verified in notepad or run WinVer.exe from command line.
