Displaying File Extensions by configuring Windows 7

Windows 7 is the latest operating system by Microsoft. Like all the previous versions of Windows, this version also has hidden file extension by default. These hidden file extensions does not let the users to find the file easily and secondly it is also difficult to rename the file. So it is better to show the file extensions. Here is the process that will guide you to display file extensions in Windows 7.

Steps:

  • Right click the Start Menu button and tap the option of Open Windows Explorer.
  • In the resulting explorer window, click on Organize and select the Folder and Search Options.
  • Select the View tab in the window of folder options. Select and uncheck the box of Hide Extensions for Known File Types. Press OK.

From now onwards, all of your files will have extension at the end of their name. To manually change any extension, simply right-click the file and use Rename feature.
