How to add RunAs to Windows Explorer in Win Vista and Win Server 2008?

Logging in to the Windows with administrator privileges and browsing the web is really a risky task, as if you get any virus from the internet; it can damage all the computers on the network. So it’s better to surf the net with unprivileged account.

For Windows Vista and Server 2008, users can use ShellRunAs tool to add the feature of RunAs to the Windows Explorer. This can be accomplished by the following procedure.

Steps:

  • Download ShellRunAs and paste its copy in to windows System32 folder.
  • Open the command prompt and type “shellrunas /reg” without quotes.
  • Press ok to complete the installation
  • This will add the option of run as to window explorer. To verify, right click on any application while holding the shift key. You will see the option of run as different user.
