Windows 7: Adding Control Panel Back to the My Computer

In Windows 7 and Vista, Control Panel can be accessed from the start menu. Unlike Windows XP, users cannot access Control Panel from My Computer. However, with a little tweak, we can add the Control Panel back to my computer in Windows 7. Use the following steps to access the Control Panel from my computer.

Steps:

  • Tap the start menu button. To open registry editor, type regedit in search box.
  • Follow the given path in registry editor
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/MyComputer/NameSpace
  • Right click the NameSpace and select New > Key.
  • Give the following name to key.
{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}

That’s it. There is no need to restart the computer. You can right now access the control panel from my computer.
