File compression allows you sending multiple files all at once and quite fast. It does this by making the files smaller. It compresses the multiple files in a single file. By compressing files, you can easily upload them on online services such as ADrive or SkyDrive.
While compressing files, you can opt to secure the files through encryption. Some of the encrypting tools are 7-Zip, WinRAR, jZip, and Scifer, wrc.
Here is the guide that will describe you how to password protect files in Windows XP.
Select the folder you want to encrypt. Right click it and select the option of send to > compressed (zipped) folder.
- Double click the zip file
- Go to file > add a password.
- Give the password in both fields.
- Press the ok button
This will encrypt the file. Any user can access the file names and folders in the zip file. However to open the folder they have to provide the password.
