How to Install Dual Booting Windows 7 using VHD Drive?

Follow the given process to install dual booting Windows 7 with the help of a VHD drive.

  • Download the Windows 7 Release Candidate.
  • To get the product key, provide Windows Live ID when prompted.
  • On the appearance of installation screen, hit the keys shift + F10.

Follow the given steps to create virtual hard drive.

  • Open the command prompt and type the command diskpart and press Enter.
  • Then enter the following commands one by one. Press Enter after typing each command.

Now Windows 7 will be installed using the virtual hard drive.

  • Close the command prompt.
  • In the Windows 7 install window, hit the button of Next.
  • Press the button of Install Now.
  • Check the option of “I accept the license terms. Hit the next button”.
  • Now select the Custom (Advanced)
  • Select the disk with unallocated space. Ignore the error “windows cannot be installed to the disk” and click Next.

Now Windows will begin installing using the virtual hard drive. After the installation, reboot the computer. On reboot, the boot manager will provide you with the boot options.
