How to Take the Windows 7 Files and Folders Ownership?

In Windows 7, without ownership rights you cannot access system files and folders. One can access the files using cmd commands but that is a long and stubborn process. Taking ownership is the best option to access system files and folders. Follow the given steps to take ownership rights to access system files and folders in Windows 7.

  • Press the Windows 7 start menu, type notepad in the search box and hit the Enter key.
  • Type or copy and paste the following commands in the Notepad:

  • Save the file with the name of addownership.reg.
  • Right-click the file and click on Merge.
  • A warning dialog box will prompt you. Click Yes to confirm.
  • Now whenever you want to access any system file, right-click it and select Take Ownership. After taking the ownership, you can do anything to the file.
