Use CMD to Find Local IP address in Windows 7?

Internet protocol (IP address) is just like a phone number for any computer. It is the number that identifies the computer in a network. It is important for the system administrators to know the IP address. Following simple steps, one can easily find the local IP address in Windows 7. In fact the process is same for windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

Follow these steps to find the IP address in Windows 7:

  • Press the Start menu button. Type cmd in the search box to open Command Prompt.
  • It will display the command prompt window
  • Type ipconfig in the command prompt window and press Enter.
  • You will find the IP address titled as IPv4 address in Command Prompt window above the subnet mask.

So following the above simple steps, finding IP address is just a matter of few seconds.
