In excel spreadsheets; drop down lists of populated fields contributes in making the data normal. Here is the guide that will show you how to add the data validation drop down list to the entire column.
- Open excel 2007 or 2010.
- Select the column to which you want to apply data validation.
- Select the data tab from the ribbon and click Data Validation. It will display the data validation window.
- Select the Setting tab. Select List from the allow drop-down menu.
- In the source, either type the data for drop down list separated by comma or if you have already some data in rows then simply select those rows.
- In the data validation window, there are two more tabs, i.e. input message and error alert. Using the input message you can choose to display a small message whenever the cell with this data validation is clicked. Similarly, if you opt for error alert, an alert generates if somebody tries to input data different from that of which is specified in source.
- After you are done with these settings, press ok.
