The previous versions of Microsoft word do not supports openoffice.org ODT formatted documents. This lag has been covered in the 2010 version of Microsoft office 2010. However, with little tweaking, we can also convert the ODT formatted documents in .doc format which is supported by all versions of Microsoft word.
Steps:
The given process is equally useful for Microsoft word 2003 and 2007.
- Select the .ODT file. Right click the file and click on Open with > WordPad.
- In WordPad, tap the File menu button. You will find it on the left of the home tab.
- From the file menu, click on Save as > Office Open XML Document.
This will convert the file in .doc format which is readable in any version of Microsoft word. So now you can read any .ODT file by converting it in .doc format.
