Windows 7 is the most versatile operating system. It is pre-loaded with many features and programs. Although it is pre-loaded with windows media centre, but the media centre lacks the ability to play increasingly popular (MKV) Matroska Video files. Here is a trick through which you can add the ability to playback MKV format in Windows Media Centre.
- Download and install FFDShow Tryouts.
- Download the 32-bit or 64-bit (according to your operating system) version of Gabest’s MKV Splitter. After downloading, extract the file in the root directory of the computer.
- In root directory, right-click the file i.e. gabest_splitter_enable.cmd and choose Run as Administrator.
- A prompt will notify you about the successful installation.
- Now download the registry file 32-bit or 64-bit depending on your operating system.
- Right-click registry files and click on Merge. This step will need administrative rights.
- Click Yes on warning prompt.
- After the new keys are added to registry, a pop-up will show up.
- Press ok.
This will enable you to enjoy MKV videos on windows media centre.
