The arrow on shortcut icons is useful in differentiating the shortcut icons from other icons. Still if you want to get rid of it, do follow the given procedure.
Steps:
- Click start menu and type regedit in the search box. Press Enter. It will open the Registry Editor.
- Browse the following registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons
- If you could not find the shell icons key, then right-click Explorer and select New > Key.
- Name the new key as Shell Icons.
- Right-click on any empty area in the right panel of the Shell Icons. Click New and select String Value. 29 should be the title of the new string.
- Right-click the 29 key and click Modify.
- Give the following path in the field of Value Data.
C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll,50
- Press OK.
- Reboot the computer to get the changes into effect.
This will remove the arrow from the shortcut icon symbol.
