How to Remove Arrow from Shortcut Icon in Windows 7?

The arrow on shortcut icons is useful in differentiating the shortcut icons from other icons. Still if you want to get rid of it, do follow the given procedure.

Steps:

  • Click start menu and type regedit in the search box. Press Enter. It will open the Registry Editor.
  • Browse the following registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons

  • If you could not find the shell icons key, then right-click Explorer and select New > Key.
  • Name the new key as Shell Icons.
  • Right-click on any empty area in the right panel of the Shell Icons. Click New and select String Value.  29 should be the title of the new string.
  • Right-click the 29 key and click Modify.
  • Give the following path in the field of Value Data.

C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll,50

  • Press OK.
  • Reboot the computer to get the changes into effect.

This will remove the arrow from the shortcut icon symbol.
