How to Remove Windows 7 Backup Files to Recover Hard Drive Space?

When computer users install windows 7 service pack 1, they may don’t know that SP1 creates backup files on hard drive which occupies about 500 MB of space. These files are useful if you want to uninstall the service pack 1. If you are sure about that you will not need to delete SP1, then it is good to delete the backup files and free up occupied hard drive space. Follow the given procedure to clean up the system files.

  • Tap the start menu. Write disk cleanup in the search field and press enter.
  • After few moments of scanning, you will see the window of Disk Cleanup.
  • Tap the Cleanup System Files button. You will notice a shield icon on this button. The shield shows that you need to have administrator privileges order to clean system files.
  • Windows will start the scanning process. After scanning, Disk Cleanup window will appear again.
  • Check the option of Service Pack Backup Files and hit the OK button.

This will remove all the system backup files freeing up 500MB of hard drive space.
