Microsoft has included intact feature of saving/managing Power in Windows 7 that can be setup easily. You can manage it for saving extra consumption of electricity. Here is the Process to setup and Manage Power Plan of Windows 7.
Steps:
- Click on Windows Start Menu and Open Control Panel.
- Change the View by settings to ‘small icons’ in Control Panel.
- Click on the link of ‘Power Options’.
- In the options, best way is to choose the plan that meet your requirements and go in ‘change plan settings’ for settings.
- Create a Power Plan’ is another option to customize your desired settings.
- Click on Next to after creating your own Plan. Change your basic settings.
- Choose ‘Change Advance Power Settings’ in order to modify each single setting e.g. Hard disk, Sleep, Hybrid, Power Buttons and LID, Display and Multimedia settings.
- Finally, select your desired Power Button action (e.g. Shutdown).
- Save Changes to finish.
Power Configuration Completed.

is there anyway to put it to sleep without getting locked out after 10 mins? i have programs that need to be locked and after 10 mins they stop due to getting to the log in screen.
