Msseces. and Msmpeng.exe – security processes for PC exe

Microsoft security essential (MSE) is a security suite to prevent your computer from viruses, spyware and malware. Messeces.exe and msmpeng.exe are two processes that are added in Microsoft Security Essential. Let’s have an introduction with these two processes.

Msseces.exe process:

Msseces.exe allows to open Microsoft Security Essential‘s interface.  You cannot make any configuration in Microsoft Security Essential without Msseces.exe. It also provides alerts when new threats occur.  You can check its description regarding responsibilities in Task Manager.

You can remove this process without removing MSE application. After uninstalling, no more alerts will appear. There is no any reason to delete this process. It also takes very less memory space. So no need to remove msseces.exe

Msmpeng.exe process:

MsMpEng.exe is sometimes performing protection as hidden process and sometimes visible. This process is shared process. Both MSE and Windows Defender use this process. Memory space occupied by MsMpEng is very few if you don’t make system scan. You can find file in “C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Security Essentials”.

If MsMpEng.exe is not opened, Msseces.exe shows alerts which ask you to restart MsMpEng.exe. Click on “Start Now” button on pop-up alert. Process will restart after some time.
