Sleep Mode:
Sleep in computer is state of computer which power in minimum rate. In this state computer start moving animations on desktop screen. Purpose of sleep mode is to stop all opened tasks and make your computer state as shutdown. Sleep mode will not shutdown your PC and electricity is still consuming. Your current data is stored in hard disk in case of hybrid sleep. Some modes save data in RAM memory. Energy consumption varies in different modes and computer. Most of the computers in this state consume 5W to 10 W in one hour.
Hibernate Mode:
It is also a state of computer in which energy is consumed very low. It prevents your data from destroying when you shutdown PC. It saves all current opened tasks into hard disk drive and then closes all. It consumes 2 watt of energy in one hour and may be less than this depending on system type. Hibernate mode stores all opened data in hiberfil.sys. Hiberfil.sys can contain large size even in multiple of GB.
Sleep vs. Hibernate:
Which one is better, sleep mode or Hibernate? Actually both are good according to their functionalities. All depend on your system and its performance. Sleep mode absorb less power and Hibernate mode takes lowest amount of power. But still Sleep mode is more significant than Hibernate mode. Most of the computers take more power to turn on the PC.
Sleep mode is good option if you rest your PC for less time and come back after some time to continue your work. If you need to boot up your PC, use Hibernate mode and you leave the system to turn off after extended time.
