What is SearchIndexer.exe and how to disable it

SearchIndexer.exe is a Microsoft application used to provide property caching, content indexing and search results for emails, files and many other contents. It is responsible to indexes files so you can get them quickly from by searching from internet explorer search or windows start orb. SearchIndexer.exe process is compatible and standard to all windows versions. Open “Windows task manager” and click on “Process” tab. Here you can find SearchIndexer.exe in given list.

Performance of SearchIndexer.exe depends on windows versions. Performance of earchIndexer.exe is not good in Windows XP but Microsoft has improved it’s functionality in windows 7 and vista. You can check its properties by right click on SearchIndexer.exe file and then select “Properties” tab. It is a safe part for windows 7 so it’s better to don’t disable.

Let’s have a look at these steps if you want to disable it from windows.

  • Open start menu orb. Write “services.msc” and hit “Enter”.
  • Services window will appear. Make a right click on “Windows Search” label under “Name” heading and then click on “Properties” from list menu.
  • Change the start type option to “Disabled” and click on “Stop” button located under “Service status” heading. Select “OK” button to apply changes.  After finishing, SearchIndexer.exe will be disabled.
