How to disable default Internet Explorer 8 from Windows 7

Internet explorer is an old browsing application and comes with all operating systems. Now days there are various other browsers that people prefer like Mozilla Firefox, Google chrome and safari etc.

As there is no any way to remove it completely from operating system but in Windows 7, you can disable it.

Check out the below steps to do so

  • Open start menu and select Control Panel from all programs. Click on “View By” drop down option and select small or large icons instead of category.
  • Now click on option “Programs and Features” from Control Panel.
  • Select “Turn Windows features on or off” that is located on left panel of window.
  • Windows Features screen will appear. Here you will see list of features that you can enable or disable. To disable Inter Explorer 8 from Windows 7, uncheck the box “Internet Explorer 8”. Click “OK”.
  • Confirmation dialog box will appear saying that it may also affect other Windows features. Click “OK” to proceed.
  • Progress bar will start. Once it completed, click on “Restart Now” button. After restart, you will see that Internet Explorer 8 is no longer available. Anything that you had linked to internet explorer 8 will be associated with browser that you have installed rather than IE 8.
