How to control external devices in Windows 7 using Device Stage

In Vista OS, when you connect external devices like printers, digital cameras, USBs or phones etc to your PC, you have to recognize those devices. This was an annoying step. Well Windows 7 has eliminated this irritating step. It has added a pleasant feature namely Device Stage that gives you facility to view and manage all external devices from just single spot.

How to use Device Stage

  • Open Windows start orb and go to “Devices and Printers” in all programs. Here you will see a window with a list of all devices that are currently connected to your PC.
  • When you open it first, you will see a message about display enhanced device icons and information from internet. If you click on message, it will keep you update with the most recent drivers and related information.
  • Plug in any new device, Windows 7 will install its driver. Device icon will appear on taskbar. If you mouse hover on icon, it will show a nice image of it.
  • To change its setting, right click on icon and select setting tab from menu.
  • To move towards control panel where you manage the features and other settings of external device, simply click on the device.

This new feature is really amazing to access external devices without installing drivers. Great!
