How to Turn ON or OFF Autoplay in Windows 7

Autoplay is a tool that helps you to decide what type of action or program you should use for different digital media items when connected to system. These could be music, video CDs, USB drive or pictures from your mobile or digital camera. When you insert different types of digital media into your computer, autoplay gives you options to choose different programs in which this inserted digital media device will work. For example, you can choose which media player is used to play CDs. On the other hand, when you turn it off, you are not able to choose any programs or actions for inserted digital media into your computer. You will have to execute it manually by going to those media player programs. Here you will see few simple and basic steps which will help you in turning on or off autoplay in windows 7.

  • Open control panel and click on autoplay icon. If you want to turn autoplay on, check ‘Use AutoPlay for all media and devices’ box. You will see drop down menu to select different type of media and devices, which will run automatically.
  • To turn it off, uncheck the ‘Use AutoPlay for all media and devices’ box. Click on save button and close the control panel.
