Steps:

• Open Windows Live Messenger.
• Select your friend to whom you want to assign a sound by left clicking on it.
• Right click on the selected friend. It will open a context menu.
• Click on the option CHOOSE SOUNDS.
• This will open SELECT SOUND window. Now click on NEW INSTANT MESSAGE.
• Select the sound of your choice.
• Press OK to assign the selected sound to your friend.

The Facebook add on runs in the background on the desktop until needed, alerting users to new messages and friends coming online with a small alert that flashes briefly in the lower right corner of the desktop and then quietly fades away.  This is the one “killer-app” level feature that places the Facebook chat client in a category by itself.  Alerts let you stay connected without having to focus on the browser, a huge timesaver and a welcome feature for today’s multi-taskers.  Alerts can also be customized to the user’s preference.  A soft exit allows Chit-Chat to continue running in the background while freeing up valuable desktop real estate when not in use.

The desktop application allows you to sign-in using the same email address and password you use on the website.  In addition to allowing users to chat with friends, the software also gives you the ability to make posts to Walls, send private messages to friend’s Facebook inboxes, and allows you to post to several friends at once, greatly enhancing the Facebook experience.

Staying in touch with friends is easier than when using traditional IM clients like Windows Live Messenger, AOL Messenger, or Yahoo because contact information is always up to date.  When a friend changes an email contact you won’t need to update the information because it is accomplished by each of your contacts through Facebook itself.

Like other messengers, Chit-Chat retains the list of contacts sorted by online status, but the latest release supports Facebook’s “user groups” functionality.  Users can also choose between an alphabetical sort versus one based on the amount of time since the friend last signed into Facebook.  Right clicking a contact lets you easily send a message to the user’s inbox or post on their Wall, making communicating with friends much easier.  Additionally, by using the Ctrl key to highlight several contacts at once, you can send the same post to a number of friend’s Walls at the same time, which can be a very fun feature.

Another handy feature is the tabbed chat interface.  Each active chat has its own tab located within a sizeable chat “window.”  New messages result in highlighted tabs, making having multiple conversations convenient, while avoiding the clutter of multiple messaging windows open all across the desktop.  The software also offers the ability to save message histories if desired, although this feature does not have to be used when it is not needed or wanted.  Chit-Chat also offers additional chat features such as the ability add color, bold, and italics to text messages.

The software offers a natural, instinctive interface and most users will be up and running less than five minutes after installation.  The download is available for free from the UK based website: Chit-Chat for Facebook Download. The software supports XP, Vista, and Windows 7, but to date does not offer a version for Apple users.  A mobile app isn’t available as yet, the only minor issue with the software that could be found, but one that won’t interfere with the desktop experience.

Frequent users of Facebook should truly enjoy the additional functionality that the Facebook chat program Chit-Chat brings.

Set status from thumbnail preview:

Live team has made a good use of thumbnail preview to set the status of Windows Live messenger you can set your status to be Availble, Busy, Away or offline right from the thumbnail preview.

On click button to toggle between compact and full view:

Click on the top-right side corner button to turn Messenger into compact view or to full view.

Disable ads from Windows Live Messenger:

If you want to disable these ads, go to System32\Driver\etc folder and take full control of Hosts file. Open it and add the following line in it. Save it.
127.0.0.1 rad.msn.com
That’s it!

Choose a different sound for each contact:

Now you can choose a different sound scheme for each contact. Just right click on the contact name and select “Choose sound”

Apple Offline for a particular contact:

Appearing offline to one particular contact till now isn’t possible but now yo can, you can go offline for a particular contact while keeping your status available for others. Cool huh!

Microsoft has released a pdf document highlighting the features of the new Windows Live Messenger 2010 Wave 4.

This time the messenger is not just limited to chatting, its far beyond than this, it has Social Chatting options too, like you can chat and set your status updates from your new WLM 10.
