Law enforcement has not been shy about embracing new forms of technology into their procedures. Recent years have seen the police using everything from facial recognition to automatic license plate recognition cameras in order to bust criminals. Police precincts are utilizing what frugal tools they can, including cloud computing, dedicated server hosting, dedicated server colocation, and whatever else they can get their hands on in order to stay one step ahead of the ‘bad guys.’ But some lawyers and civil liberty advocates are saying law enforcement can and has cross the line with its use of technology.

Case in point: the use of warrantless GPS tracking by police has come under the scrutiny of the Supreme Court. The Obama administration is appealing the overturned verdict of accused drug dealer Antoine Jones, whose car was tagged with a GPS device so that law enforcement could track his movements. Ultimately Jones’ car led cops to a house where the nightclub owner was allegedly storing drugs and money. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison before an appellate judge ruled that the way police gathered the evidence was unconstitutional and threw out the conviction.

Police counter that GPS does not violate the Constitution and is in fact a critical component of starting an investigation, as it allows departments to build a case without wasting money on stakeouts and costly surveillance endeavors.

The only precedent with regards to warrantless technology use was the 1983 ruling against the use of beeper technology. The judges in that case ruled that police still had to follow the vehicle that was equipped with the beeper. But with technology growing so rapidly, it’s likely we’re going to see more and more of these cases, as civil liberties, hi-tech gadgets, and law enforcement collide. The ruling on the use of warrantless GPS tracking will likely be invoked in future cases in which new forms of surveillance technology are used in legally ambiguous ways.

Groups from every corner of the social and legal spectrum have taken up the mantle in this case, from the American Civil Liberties Union to the Gun Owners of America. It’s clearly proving to be a sociological bellwether with regards to how we will negotiate the rise of advanced technologies into society. It’s not an issue that will be going away anytime soon and though the Supreme Court will issue a ruling in the spring, few are expecting their verdict to detract from the fervor of civil liberty debates over police surveillance and references to the government as Big Brother.

There’s a new browser in town, RockMelt, and for now, it is available on a limited beta release. Meant to serve up the internet to users “the way people use the web today”, RockMelt focuses more on its interface than on pure performance, with “friends, feeds, and sharing” at its core. However, while it doesn’t hope to be the fastest browser around, you can be sure that it’s no slouch, as it built on top of the Google Chrome open source code (Chromium) says – thinkdigit.com

Your World Built into Your Browser

With RockMelt we’ve re-thought the user experience because a browser can and should be about more than simply navigating Web pages. Today, the browser connects you to your world. Why not build your world right into your browser?

Your friends are important to you, so we built them in. Now you’re able to chat, share that piano-playing-cat video everyone’s going to love, or just see what your friends are up to, regardless of what site you’re on. Your favorite sites are important to you, so we built them in too. Now you can access them from anywhere, without leaving the page you’re on. And RockMelt will tell you when something new happens.

Personalized and Backed by the Cloud

Wherever you go on the Internet, RockMelt makes the Web a personal experience. Because RockMelt is the first browser you log into, it unlocks your Web experience with your Facebook friends, your feeds, your favorite services, even your bookmarks and preferences. RockMelt is also the first browser to be fully backed by the cloud. This means you can access your personal browsing experience from anywhere, and you get quick updates from the people and sites that are important to you.

Faster Search

Last but not least, RockMelt makes search faster. And better. We got tired of clicking back and forth trying to find the right search result. So we made search as simple as leafing through a magazine. With RockMelt, you can use your keyboard to flip through Google search results and pick the one you want. Super fast. Super cool.

As we mentioned earlier, RockMelt is available as a limited beta right now for both Mac and Windows, and you have a chance of getting early access to this version by divulging your Facebook details with Facebook Connect.

To sign up for a beta invitation go to http://www.rockmelt.com.

“The victim managed to escape from her tormenters with the help of a friend of hers, who raised the alarm on Facebook,” police said in a statement.

The woman had been forced into prostitution earlier this year by a 55-year-old man named as T O, who was arrested along two other men from eastern Sicily, SA, aged 41 and I D, aged 48.

In the week since it launched, new search engine Blekko has handled one million search queries per day, the company tells us.

For context, Google handles several billion queries per day. But a million per day is certainly a very healthy start for a week-old engine aiming to be the number three in search. – BI

About Blekko

blekko is a better way to search the web by using slashtags. slashtags search only the sites you want and cut out the spam sites. use friends, experts, community or your own slashtags to slash in what you want and slash out what you don’t.

Watch The demo video -

This is how blekko promotes themselves – you know the sites you want search results from and you know the spammers, SEO gamers and content farms that just get in the way. so get out there and slash the web: slash in the sites you like and slash out the ones you don’t.

Seems quiet interesting and with raising popularity it may give some competition to Google.

Its about time someone puts this out on the table. Everywhere I look in here everyone is asking the following “what niche provides a high paying click?”

Its slightly annoying so I’m going to tell everyone why you should not be doing this. Let’s start with an example shall we”

Let us say instead of us being webmasters we are all car dealerships. Everywhere we look salesman come in Car Showroom asking “hey, which car gives the highest margin of profit for me?”.
Of course we all reply Lamborghini, private jets, tanks, etc.

As a sales person for a long time I know the game so I reply that it is stupid that people run around trying to get a Lamborghini dealership because the competition is so high you’ll never sell one because the competition is too tough.

That’s an example of being unrealistic in the car dealership world.

In the same sense focusing on high paying click sites is unrealistic for beginner to intermediate level webmasters.
Lets face it, the typical webmaster shows a major lack in quality care for their websites by using free templates, putting ads in by mass amounts, and using non-unique content therefore the typical webmaster has great difficulties competing and ranking high. By wanting high paying keywords you are asking for a face off against companies like VISA. The amount of corporate business that dominate these high paying keywords are overwelming.

At digitalpoint there is a trend us senior webmasters laugh at. first we see the “what’s the high paying keywords” then in a month or so we see the “I can’t get any traffic, how do I get traffic”. We laugh because we own and compete against a few larger companies and the beginner to intermediate webmasters struggle to make a penny because they are too bigheaded to be realistic.

The people who are good to own the high paying keyword rank site are not the random webmasters you see at DP. They are the people who own 50+ franchises, the one’s who have their own TV station, the one’s who have a $500,000 investment.

The people like me who are somewhat successful do not chase dreams like that and slowly but surely we increase our revenue with adsense with a 9 to 30 cents per click rating and we do not complain about that because we get a LOT of traffic and just build the traffic up.

When will you all learn!

This Guest post is written by Laceygirl who blogs at seoedu.info

Windows Phone 7 is the latest buzz now a days as more and more exciting features are coming forward or we can say being explored daily. If you have read 7 best Windows Phone 7 Features than you might know about some of the best features available in Windows Phone 7.

In order to secure Windows Phone 7 from getting affected , Microsoft will constantly scan the apps available for Windows Phone 7, and can, whenever they determine an app to be malicious, pull it from the app store. But there is more, if Microsoft decides that the app is too risky to be left on any phones it can remotely remove an application from your handset. And this is what we call a “Kill Switch”.

According to a PC Pro interview with Todd Biggs, Microsoft’s director of product management for the Windows Phone Marketplace, this is a worst-case scenario type of security measure, and something that is unlikely to be a common occurrence given the company’s testing process prior to an app becoming available on the market.

So what are your views in this?
