This is question is the most asked question all over the net and even some of beingPC readers have asked it too, therefore I though of sharing this with you.

Before starting let’s firs get an insight on what a Robot.txt file is -

Web site owners use the /robots.txt file to give instructions about their site to web robots; this is called The Robots Exclusion Protocol.

These instructions may be to hide some information or to let bots to access some, totally depends on your requirement.

Following are a few examples of what you can type in a robots.txt file.

Ban all robots

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

Allow all robots

To allow any robot to access your entire site, you can simply leave the robots.txt file blank, or you could use this:

User-agent: *
Disallow:

Ban specific robots

To ban specific robots, use the robot’s name. Look at the list of robot names to find the correct name. For example, Google is
Googlebot
and Microsoft search is
MSNBot
. To ban only Google:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /

Allow specific robots

As in the previous example, use the robot’s correct name. To allow only Google, use all four lines:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

Ban robots from part of your site

To ban all robots from the page “Archives” and its subpages, located at http://yourblog.example.com/archives/,

User-agent: *
Disallow: /archives/

Simple enough!!! For those you can use a wordpress plugin try KB Robots.txt

From the day I started beingPC, most of my visitors advised me to include threaded commenting, but I was not able to add it because of the wordpress template restrictions that I have applied. But from today onwards Threaded comment are enabled in beingPC thanks to WordPress Threaded Comment plugin.

If you have noticed than you have find that I don’t really write much about WordPress Plugins. But from today onwards I will do a review of all the WordPress Plugins that I have applied in my Blog, I hope this will help my fellow bloggers too.

This Plugin is an enhancement for WordPress’s comment function. It enables users to reply on a exist comment, and the discussion will be displayed threaded or nested. As I said it is an enhancement, ie even if your blog doesn’t support threaded comment it will enable it.

Have a quick look on its features

One can reply on any exist comments.

The discussion will be displayed nested or threaded.

Easy to install. No hacking on WordPress or your theme is needed.

W3C compatible.

Customizable HTML / PHP / CSS on admin section.

AJAX support, enables to comment without reloading the whole page.

Choose AJAX or not freely

Get notification by email when reply is available.

Can manage comment in front-end(move comment, delete comment)

Download : WordPress Thread Comment

So if you haven’t started threaded Comment in your blog its time to move on and use this wonderful plugin.

Till now I was using 3 plugins to get 3 Social Bookmarking Voting Buttons on my post ie Twitter, Facebook Share and Google Buzz. But from today onwards if you have noticed I have made some changes in it, now I have added Digg, Twitter, Facebook Share in a Vertical row and I am quite happy with it.

And there are 2 reasons for that – First, all these 3 voting buttons are from a single wordpress plugin and second I have just 3 unnecessary plugins from my blog. Lesser The Plugin Faster Your Blog Is

We have already discussed benefits of commenting (and commenting on do-follow blog), if you are getting per day 3 (minimum) visitor by just commenting on a blog and suppose you comment on 20 blogs daily than you get 60 visitors by doing nothing (i.e. without adding a new post at your blog). But this number can be increased significantly (from 3 to 7) if you comment on those blog which have CommentLuv enabled, because these blog in-spite of giving you back-link from your name gives you a direct link to your last blog post which most of the visitor may click.

Its pretty obvious that any reader will click on a materialistic link rather than clicking on your name.

By enabling CommentLuv you are giving your commentators a direct traffic and a backlink which encourage them to comment more. Just try commenting on CommentLuv enabled blog for 2-3 weeks and see the difference.

As a matter of fact we www.beingPC.com has just enabled CommentLuv, so to give our reader some more direct links.

You can add CommentLuv WordPress Plugin by downloading it from here

Today when I woke up at 10:30 AM (I am damn good in sleeping), I got a call from my friend saying something wrong with my website. I washed my face and went straight to my PC started my Browser and open www.beingPC.com and I am really shocked by seeing my website, everything is going wrong, all my categories were deleted, My Headline and Featured widget were not working, Page Navigation was showing error.

And above all I was not able to access my Control panel, so the first thing came into my mind is my website is Hacked, but after looking deeply I came to know that my disk space ran out and this is causing all problems. So i figured out that correcting all these will take at-least half an hour and till than most of my visitor will raise their eyebrow and close my website.

At this time I recalled a plugin that I have never used but have installed in case of emergency, that plugin is Maintenance Mode Plugin.

Maintenance mode plugin is a free wordpress plugin, which will let you put a custom message at the time you are doing something with your website like editing or struggling like me. At that time you can show your visitor a custom message that you are doing so and so thing so they should visit after so and so time.
